Family friendly restaurants in Ubud, bali

The number of eateries in Ubud will blow your mind - and the quality of food even more so. There is every type of cuisine imaginable, from local indonesian noodle dishes, to Indian, to Mexican. We spent 5 weeks in Ubud these are our favourite family friendly restaurants, cafes and bars so far.

BLend cafe

This gorgeous little cafe is to the south of the monkey forest. You can walk from here to the entrance in around 10 minutes which is what we did (although take note it is along a path that is shared with mopeds!). The Smoothie bowls (80k/£4) here are to die for, both in taste and look, with beautifully detailed designs and the fruit is fresh and varied, and when combined with yogurt and granola it creates a filling bowl. We only had 2 bowls between us, the tropical and the berry mix, and that was sufficient. They also served other breakfast items until 12, including the usual eggs and avocado. There’s a huge drinks menu with fruit juices, milkshakes, coffees and even bubble teas which were a big hit for Alicia.

ODETTE BALI

Located to the south of Ubud and much nearer where we were staying, is the beautiful gardens and restaurant of Odette. The gardens have ponds with large kois and plenty of space for kids to run around, but given it was evening and the risk of mozzies, we opted for indoor dining. This does come with a warning in that the cake cabinet is the first thing you see as you walk through the door. The menu is large and offers starters, indonesian mains as well as very healthy salads and fresh pasta. There is also a kids menu although all eyes were already on the cakes for dessert. The cakes are 40k/£2 each and are huge - neither of our two could finish theirs which is unheard of! There’s even macaroons if you just want a small sweet nibble. Our total meal cost for 4 mains, 2 desserts and drinks was 600k/£30.

Milk and Madhu

We visited Milk and Madhu back in 2019, and they also have an outlet in Canggu. We were caught in a downpour outside the art market and so when we spotted this place over the road on the map it was a no brainer. Bonus points for the fact we arrived on a Tuesday after 4pm when it is buy one get one free on all pizzas. This offer is also on Sundays! The pizzas come in small and large - 2 smalls were enough for us to share between us, and being veggie we opted for the pumpkin and then also the burrata - both were out of this world and some of the best pizzas we have ever had, especially at 120k/£6 for 2 pizzas as part of the BOGOF. They also do kids meals 70k/£3.50 which come on a small tray with a cone of fries, fruit, fruit juice and cookies + meal. There’s 5 meals to choose from including mac and cheese, burgers and of course pizzas. They also do breakfasts here which looked epic but we haven’t sampled them ourselves. The place is large and a really nice ambient.

BALI FAMILY HANGOUT

Bali Family Hangout offers classes and activities for kids as well as a good menu (read more about the classes here). Entrance to the play area, which includes use of a small pool (and they are on the brink of opening a water slide), is 150k (£7.50) or free after 6pm. The play area is perfect for under 11s with a sandpit, cargo nets, slides, swings, bridges, a small bike track with balance bikes and scooters to use and a trampoline.

Food wide there is a large varied menu of western and indonesian cuisine, and the kids have around 10 choices as well as desserts! The pizzas have gone down a treat, as well as the burgers. I would say the kids pasta portions are quite small and our 8 year old was still hungry so ordered an adult portion on visit number 2! The biggest challenge we had in this place was to get the kids to eat as they just wanted to play!

Taco Casa

If you like Mexican food, head to Taco Casa to the south of Ubud, but still fairly central near the monkey forest and melting pot saloon, both of which are mentioned on our ‘activities to do with kids’ page. Food is delicious, service fast and prices very reasonable. They offer everything you expect from a Mexican, but for kids they have ‘build your own’ burritos or tacos, where you select your various ingredients and they all arrive in little bowls accompanied with the wraps. Nyle thought this was brilliant for him to make his own chicken, sweetcorn and rice wraps! Main meals are around £5 each, with veggie, chicken, beef and chrimp options for everything.
